Sitting on Seaweed?

A newly opened exhibit at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany titled Plastic: Remaking our World features a chair 3-D printed from seaweed provided by Kelp Blue.

Design duo Klarenbeek & Dros re-created Peter Ghyczy’s iconic ‘Garden Egg’ entirely from kelp. Even the fabric was dyed using seaweed pigments.

This is just one of the many projects being explored around the world to understand how seaweed can be used for more than just food and biostimulants.
