Kelp Blue and Wageningen University to Clean Up Seaweed Extraction Process
Cultivating seaweed requires no fresh water, no land and no chemicals, but extracting the valuable components from the seaweed often doesn’t.
New techniques and methods are needed to clean up (and scale) a greener extraction process.
Thanks to a grant from NWO (Dutch Research Council), Wageningen University & ResearchAntoinette KAZBAR will be researching the use of a new class of solvents called Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) as a means to clean up the extraction process.
We’re providing further support for this project together with Hortimare, ALGAIA and Universidade de Aveiro.
