WHAT IS A BIOSTIMULANT ?
Biostimulants boost the natural processes of crops and plants and their environment. Their ingredients stimulate the plants nutritional processes, improve nutrient efficiency, increase tolerance to abiotic stress and improve crop quality as well as yield. Said differently, biostimulants help crops adapt and recover from fluctuation weather patterns and extreme weather events.
Biotech has developed Stimplus+, a biostimulant derived from Macrocystis Pyrifera, or giant kelp, that can respond to these challenges and contribute to sustainable farming practices.
Biostimulants are also great for the soil, promoting greater nutrient efficiency, reducing the need for chemical fertilisers and increasing healthy microorganism biodiversity. Stimplus also helps to mitigate the environmentally hazardous impacts of agriculture and the climate crisis, by increasing the amount of carbon the soil is able to store.
IMPROVED RESISTANCE AND TOLERANCE TO ABIOTIC STRESS
Due to an increase and intensification of extreme weather events, crops are subjected to sub-optimal growing conditions such as droughts, floods, frost, heat or salinity. These abiotic stressors are responsible for 50-70% of yield loss.
These stress factors can alter the physiological processes of the plant, making it more susceptible to pathogens and pests as well as acting as a limiting factor in the survival, productivity and growth of the plant.
Stimplus is shown to be the most effective and environmentally friendly way to improve the plants ability to resist these factors by boosting the plant’s metabolism. It helps plants tolerate stress in adverse growing conditions and
improves plant establishment, leading to stronger plants, better able to cope with sub-optimal environmental conditions.
IMPROVED NUTRIENT UPTAKE AND CROP AND HARVEST QUALITY
Nutrient uptake is the mechanism that plants use to absorb nutrients essential for their growth and is key to a healthy and efficient plant development. Efficient nutrient uptake contributes to stronger crops that are able to resist environmental stress.
Biostimulants naturally stimulate the plant’s physiology in order to increase the use of available essential nutrients. They help the uptake and absorption of nutrients by the plant, these nutrients have a positive effect on the plant’s metabolism, leading to higher quality crops and stronger plants after the harvest.
Crops given biostimulants present an increase in fruit size, weight, colour and firmness with more uniformity. Biostimulants also assist crops after their growth, as they travel to the consumer, by improving firmness, appearance and shelf life.

Soil health is essential to a sustainable and productive agriculture. Proper management of soil health allows farmers to work with the land to improve nutrient cycling, prevent flooding and improve the resistance of the crops to abiotic stress.

Field trials show that macrocystis is a more productive extract for biostimulants, with boosted germination, increased root and shoot length, fresh weight as well as an increase in total length compared to other biostimulants.
